Frequently Asked Questions

Why are there two amounts pending on my bank account for a single purchase?

When using a debit card or check card to make an e-store purchase, the funds are both temporarily held and then settled, at the time of shipment, from the associated bank account. When your e-store order is placed, your bank places a hold on your account to reserve the funds needed for the total amount of your purchase. If there is a need to cancel an item(s) from your order, due to an inventory availability issue for example, your order is invoiced for the original sale amount minus the canceled item(s), when it is shipped. As a result, there is now a discrepancy between the original hold amount on your bank account versus the actual settlement charge for the item(s) shipped. Although the authorization number is the same for both transactions, your bank may not recognize the hold and settlement amounts are associated to the same purchase, due to the monetary variance. As your bank will not release the original hold amount for approximately seven days, overdrafts could potentially occur if sufficient funds are not available in your account. To avoid this situation, employees are encouraged to utilize their Tiffany & Co. charge account or a major credit card for their e-store purchases.
